Startup Guide

This guide describes main concepts of Gotshop administration and will show you the proper way of creating your own online shop.

First Step

First of all login to administration interface located at http://gotshopexample.com/admin/ with admin username and password provided to you in the email you received when your web shop became active.

Please note that we use example domain name 'gotshopexample.com' in this guide. You should replace it with your real domain used for web shop or temporary domain that was provided to you.

If you do not know administrator username and password you can not continue and must contact support team to obtain your access details.

Once logged in as administrator click on Main Setup link under Shop Configuration menu.

Main Setup

There are many settings in Main Setup window but we will list the most important ones that you need to change.

  • Shop name - change this field to your shop name. It will be used in almost all emails sent to your buyers.

  • Address for order notifications - change this field to your email address. Once new order was placed the notification will be sent to this address.

  • Login required for buyer - review this option and choose if you would like only registered buyers to access your web shop.

  • Buyer must register - review this option and choose if you would like to force buyers to register on checkout.

  • Main currency - review this option and change to your currency if necessary.

  • Email addresses - review all email addresses and make sure they are using your domain name. Note that all support tickets notifications will be sent to Email address for support tickets notifications address.

Please also review other settings if you wish and change accordantly to your needs.

Once you finished changing Main Settings press Save main variables button to save all your changes.

Now you can proceed and setup Product Tables for all your products. Please click on Manage Product Tables link under Shop Configuration menu.

Manage Product Tables

All your products are stored in Product Tables and it is up to you to decide what fields these tables will have.

We recommend using different Product Tables for different types of products to achieve maximum flexibility and performance.

In this guide we will setup new Product Table for product group Digital Cameras. Please note that your product groups will be different and will have different names.

To add Product Table click on Add new product table link and type the table name and description(optional). In our example we will name this Product Table as Digital Cameras. Once you typed the name press Add new table button. New Product Table has been added with default fields. Click on Product Table name to customize it.

As we use Digital Cameras as our example we will customize our new Product Table with two new fields suitable for Digital Cameras: Mega Pixels and Manufacturer. Click on Add new field link and new form for new field will appear on top of the Product Table.

Type in field details as follows:

  • Field Name - Mega Pixels
    • This name will be visible to buyer as product information
  • Type - Number
    • We use Number here as Mega Pixels is numeric information. This will reduce the risk of data entry errors.
  • Size - 2
    • Limit number of characters this field can hold. As its very unlikely Mega Pixels can be more than 2 characters so we limit this field size to 2. This will reduce the risk of data entry errors.
  • As Link - No
    • In this example we do not want Mega Pixels data displayed as link. You may choose Yes if you wish.
  • Field Notice (right) - Mpx
    • This text will be displayed on the right side of the actual value.
  • Field Size - 5
    • We limit actual displayed HTML field size to 5. As we have characters limit set to 2 it is good idea to have this field displayed small.

There are other settings you might want to change for the field. Click on view help link to view detailed explanation of each setting.

Press Add field button to add new field.

Now we need to add second field for Digital Cameras called Manufacturer. Click on Add new field link again and new form for new field will appear on top of the Product Table.

Type in field details as follows:

  • Field Name - Manufacturer
    • This name will be visible to buyer as product information
  • Type - Text
    • We use Text here as Manufacturer can be any text.
  • As Link - No
    • In this example we do not want Manufacturer displayed as link. You may choose Yes if you wish.

Press Add field button to add new field.

At this stage we have properly created Product Table for digital cameras with two extra fields Mega Pixels and Manufacturer. Now it is time to add new product group and actual products.

Please click on Show Product Groups link under Product Groups menu located at the very bottom of the main menu. Then click on Add top level group link under Product Groups menu located at the very bottom of the main menu.

Add Product Group

To add new product group you need to type group name and choose correct Product Table for the group. You may review all other fields but they are not required to be changed.

In our example we create product group as follows:

  • Group Name - Digital Cameras
  • Product Table - Digital Cameras

Press Add Product Group button to add the product group. Once product group is created you will be redirected to this product group view and you will be able to start adding products.

Click on Add new product link to add new product.

Add New Product

As you can see Mega Pixels and Manufacturer fields are displayed in the Add Product form and they will be used with any product in the selected Product Group. By modifying Product Table you can modify the product information and there is no limit how many extra product fields you might have. Mega Pixels and Manufacturer are just two examples and there can be much more fields, depending on the complexity of your web shop.

To add new product you need to fill in the product form and press Add Product button.

Please note that you will be prompted for images on the next screen.

You can repeat Add Product process for any number of products in this Product Group.

Final Notes

Along with product tables customization you can customize Buyer, Supplier, Admin User and Orders tables under Shop Configuration menu. These tables customization is similar to product tables but information in these tables is related to Buyer, Supplier, Admin User or Checkout Process.
